Embrace the Outdoors
Discover family paddleboarding, swimming and sauna experiences at Woodland Lakes.
There’s something truly special about spending time by the water as a family — from peaceful paddleboarding sessions across the lake to refreshing swims surrounded by the natural beauty of Woodland Lakes. Our family lake has been designed to offer the perfect balance of adventure, relaxation, and quality time outdoors, creating a welcoming environment where both adults and children can enjoy the water safely together.
Whether you are introducing children to paddleboarding for the first time, enjoying a casual swim during the warmer months, or simply relaxing lakeside, Woodland Lakes offers a unique outdoor experience in the heart of North Yorkshire. The calm surroundings, open water, and fresh air create the ideal setting to unwind and reconnect with nature away from the pace of everyday life.
The lake itself is generously sized, providing plenty of space for swimmers and paddleboard users while maintaining a calm and enjoyable atmosphere throughout each session. A non-toxic lake dye gives the water its distinctive bluish tinge — this is completely safe and helps maintain the lake’s natural balance while improving water clarity.
Several entry and exit platforms are positioned around the lake to make access easy and safe for all ages. Safety ring buoys are also located at intervals around the shoreline for added reassurance throughout every session.
We have also carried out a comprehensive risk assessment, outlining key safety procedures and guidance for all participants. This helps ensure that every family session at Woodland Lakes can be enjoyed confidently within a carefully managed environment.
Session Times
Family lake sessions run daily from 8 am until 8 pm, with swimming available throughout the day.
Please note that times may vary slightly depending on weather conditions and daylight hours.
Paddleboard Hire
Paddleboards are available to hire on-site from £15 per board, making it easy for families and beginners to enjoy the lake even without their own equipment.
To ensure everyone has enough space on the water and to maintain a safe environment, sessions are limited to a maximum of 15 paddleboards at any one time.
Relax & Refuel
As part of your visit, you can also enjoy our on-site facilities. Warm up afterwards in our outdoor sauna, grab a fresh coffee or breakfast at the Woodrock Café, or enjoy a relaxed meal in the Watermill Restaurant overlooking the lakes.
Many visitors choose to combine paddleboarding or swimming with a sauna session, helping to create the perfect mix of activity and relaxation during their visit.
Every day at Woodland Lakes offers a slightly different experience. From calm summer mornings on the water to peaceful evenings watching the sun set across the lakes, the setting provides a memorable outdoor escape for families, couples, and groups alike.
